Carlos Queiroz names 23-man Ghana squad for Mexico friendly

Ghana head coach Carlos Manuel Brito Leal Queiroz has named his first 23-man squad since taking charge of the Black Stars, selecting a balanced group for the international friendly against Mexico in May.

The squad blends players from the Ghana Premier League, the U23 side, and several foreign-based returnees as Queiroz begins shaping his team ahead of competitive assignments.

Among the notable inclusions is Felix Afena-Gyan of Amedspor, who returns to the national team setup after a period away.

Also making their way back into the squad are Majeed Ashimeru, Razak Simpson, and Ibrahim Osman of Birmingham City.

Ashimeru, who plays for RAAL La Louvière in Belgium, returns after a prolonged absence from the Black Stars due to injury setbacks and limited club appearances.

Afena-Gyan last featured for Ghana in May last year against Trinidad and Tobago in the Unity Cup in London.

The squad also features emerging talents including Barcelona B’s Abdul Aziz Issah, AS Saint-Étienne defender Ebenezer Annan, Ibrahim Osman of Birmingham City, and Ajax FC’s Paul Reverson.

Medeama SC midfielder Salim Adams leads the group of locally based players invited by the coach.

He is joined by Heart of Lions defender Ebenezer Abban, Dreams FC’s Ebenezer Adade, and Nations FC captain Razak Simpson, reflecting strong representation from the domestic league.

Ghana will travel to Mexico for the international friendly scheduled for Friday, 22 May 2026.

The full squad list is expected to be released by the Ghana Football Association ahead of the team’s departure.
