“We will kill you one time if you try your things” — Vormawor alleges threats from NDC appointees

Lawyer and activist Oliver Barker‑Vormawor has taken to Facebook to criticise some newly appointed officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing them of hypocrisy and moralising about patriotism while once discouraging his activism.

In a post shared today, Barker‑Vormawor recounted how, during the NDC’s years in opposition, certain supporters privately urged him to stop his activism, warning that “Ghana is not worth the hustle” and advising him to protect himself and his family.

“Those same individuals, he said, expressed fear of speaking out under the Nana Akufo-Addo administration, citing the government’s vindictiveness and their own desire to quietly advance politically or secure contracts.

“Today those people are in power. They have appointments. Big men and women in Government,” Barker‑Vormawor wrote. “I love it the most that they now moralise to me about they care so much about Ghana.

“And how, I should leave them to do their jobs. Some even say to me, ‘We, we are not NPP oo. If you try your things, we will kill you one time.’ I swear, life is a big trip!”

Barker‑Vormawor, a prominent voice in civic activism and co‑founder of the #FixTheCountry movement, has previously led protests and campaigns highlighting governance and economic challenges in Ghana.

His activism has at times put him at odds with state authorities, including a treason felony charge in 2022 related to comments on the controversial E‑levy, from which he was later acquitted in 2025.

His latest post highlights ongoing tensions between activists and political elites, raising questions about the behaviour of government appointees who once discouraged public dissent but now speak on national interest from positions of power.
