Tsakani – The Embraced Woman (TEW) held a Women’s Health Walk-A-thon to promote wellness during National Women’s Health Week on May 16.

The walk was hosted in Tsakani, with KwaMasango Braaihouse as the starting point.

The event received support from various brands, and the successful walk brought together women from all walks of life, families and community members.

Founder of TEW, Gugulethu Msimanga, said the walk was a way to extend the week’s message of prioritising women’s physical and mental well-being.

“The walkathon aimed to encourage women to take proactive steps toward healthier lifestyles, while also raising awareness about key health issues affecting women of all ages, she said.

Participants gathered early in the misty morning, dressed in supportive event T-shirts, and walked a designated route filled with energy, encouragement, and a shared sense of purpose.

“The event was not only about physical activity, but also about building a supportive community where women feel empowered to take charge of their health,” she added.

Participants received gold medals for their participation. The day featured health professionals offering guidance on preventive care, nutrition, mental health, and regular screenings.

Speakers emphasised the importance of maintaining healthy habits beyond the walkathon, encouraging women to incorporate regular exercise, balanced diets, and routine health check-ups into their daily lives.

The walk-a-thon concluded with refreshments, wellness information booths, and a call for continued community engagement in women’s health initiatives throughout the year.

Msimanga described the event as a success and confirmed plans to host similar wellness activities in the future, reinforcing their commitment to improving women’s health and empowerment in the community.
