A coordinated police operation has led to the arrest of seven suspected members of a dangerous robbery network believed to be responsible for a wave of attacks on motorists and residents across the Greater Accra, Eastern and Ashanti regions.
The arrests were carried out following weeks of intelligence-led surveillance by the Accra Regional Police Command, in collaboration with officers in the Eastern Region.
The suspects are alleged to have carried out a string of armed robberies along major highways and within residential communities, leaving several victims traumatised and, in one reported case, resulting in the death of a driver.
Police sources say the group’s activities came under intense scrutiny after a robbery incident on 29 November 2025 at Peduase, near Aburi, where occupants of a private residence were attacked and relieved of mobile phones, jewellery and cash.
A breakthrough in the investigations occurred on January 6, 2026, when officers arrested a 30-year-old suspect, Kofi Ishmael, at Avenor in Accra. During interrogation, he reportedly admitted involvement in the Peduase attack and identified another suspect, Kwame Bediako, popularly known as “Star Boy”, as a key figure within the group.

This intelligence led to the arrest of Bediako at Ablekuma Agape. A subsequent search at his residence allegedly uncovered a pump-action gun concealed within a fence wall, together with four BB cartridges. Police say he has since admitted participation in multiple robbery operations.
Further investigations have linked the syndicate to attacks along several major routes, including the Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, Pokuase, Amasaman, Suhum, Nkawkaw and the Juaso–Kumasi stretch. Authorities believe the suspects were planning another operation when they were picked up.

Those currently in custody are Salim Mohammed, also known as Kwaku Nuah (27); Kofi Ishmael, also known as Ishmael Addo; Kwame Bediako, also called Star Boy and Nkorkpor, identified by investigators as the ringleader; Kwadwo Kaloyi, known as Aticho; Mumuni Abdul Razak, also known as Mogambo (39); Kwasi Akambuley, also known as Kwasi Fresh (27); and Kwame Bonsu, also called Killer Ntua. One of the suspects is receiving medical care under police supervision.
Police intelligence further suggests that some members of the group are connected to earlier robbery cases involving attacks on market women and motorists. Investigators also claim that a few of the suspects had previously been granted bail in pending cases but failed to honour court conditions.

Items retrieved during the operations include firearms, ammunition, machetes, knives, mobile phones and other property believed to be linked to the alleged crimes.
The Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to clamping down on organised crime and has encouraged members of the public to volunteer credible information that could aid ongoing investigations.
