Port City crowned champions of inaugural Accra City Invitational Tournament

Ghana Premier League newcomers Port City have been crowned champions of the inaugural Accra City Invitational Tournament after edging Hearts of Oak 1-0 in the final.

The newly promoted side produced a disciplined performance to secure a memorable victory and lift the trophy as part of their preparations for the upcoming Ghana Premier League campaign.

After a closely contested encounter in Accra, the decisive moment arrived late in the game when Port City were awarded a free-kick in a promising position.

Abdul Hakim stepped up and delivered for his team, finding the back of the net with a well-taken free-kick to break the deadlock and ultimately settle the final.

Hearts pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but Port City held firm to protect their slender advantage and secure the historic triumph.

The victory represents an encouraging start to Port City’s preparations as they get ready for their maiden Ghana Premier League campaign.

The tournament provided the club with valuable competitive minutes and an opportunity to assess their squad ahead of the new season.

For the Phobians, the defeat will serve as another useful exercise in their preparations, despite missing out on the inaugural title.

Port City can now celebrate becoming the first-ever winners of the Accra City Invitational Tournament, with Abdul Hakim’s late free-kick proving to be the difference on a memorable evening.
