One Super Eagles Of Nigeria Player, Chelle Named In CAF Best 11 After AFCON 2025 Group Stage

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have stamped their mark on the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after two of their stars were named in the official CAF Group Stage Best XI, with head coach Eric Chelle also recognised as the manager of the team.

The Franco-Malian tactician, who led the Super Eagles to a flawless record in Group C, was chosen to guide the AFCON Best XI.

Chelle’s appointment highlights the rapid impact of his coaching philosophy, with Nigeria emerging as one of the most balanced and convincing sides during the group stage.

Central to Nigeria’s representation in the lineup is Ademola Lookman. The Atalanta star has caught the eye with a series of assured performances. He contributed directly to four goals in the group stage, scoring twice and setting up another two.

The full Best XI include Mohamed El Shenawy of Egypt, who occupies the goal. Defence is marshalled by Noussair Mazraoui and Abdi as full-backs, with central pairing Edmond Tapsoba and Axel Tuanzebe completing the four-man wall.

Midfield responsibility rests with Carlos Baleba, while Lookman and Morocco’s Brahim Diaz provide the creativity and control further up the pitch. The attack features Sadio Mané on the left, Riyad Mahrez on the right, and Amad Diallo leading the line after an impressive group-stage performance.

As the tournament progresses towards the knockout rounds, Chelle and the Super Eagles are focused on pursuing Nigeria’s fourth AFCON title, building on past triumphs in 1980, 1994 and 2013.

Nigeria’s next game is against Mozambique in the round of 16 at 8 p.m. on Monday, January 5.
