Nursing Training College at Techiman Krobo shut indefinitely over student unrest

The Ministry of Health has announced the temporary closure of the Nursing Training College at Techiman Krobo in the Bono East Region following unrest and what it describes as a breakdown in discipline at the institution.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, July 29, the Ministry said the decision takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.

According to the Ministry, the closure follows continued disturbances by some students despite several engagements involving stakeholders, including the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), aimed at restoring calm and resolving the impasse through dialogue.

The Ministry said the conduct of the students had disrupted academic activities and posed a threat to the peace, safety and orderly administration of the college.

It explained that the temporary shutdown is intended to restore calm, safeguard lives and property, and provide the appropriate authorities with the opportunity to assess the situation and determine the conditions necessary for the institution to reopen.

As part of the directive, all students have been ordered to vacate the campus peacefully by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Parents and guardians have also been advised to make the necessary arrangements to receive their wards.

The Ministry assured students, parents and staff that every effort would be made to resolve the situation as quickly as possible, adding that information on the reopening of the college would be communicated through official channels.

It further appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate with efforts to restore a safe, peaceful and disciplined learning environment at the institution.
