… Urges Nigerians to embrace hope, unity, renewed trust in nation-building
As Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary, the Okanlomo Oodua and Gbonka Olubadan of Ibadanland and Ilaji Resort boss, Jubril Dotun Sanusi, has extended warm greetings and goodwill to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, calling for renewed faith in the Nigerian project, national unity and collective responsibility.
In a goodwill message issued to commemorate the anniversary, Sanusi described the occasion as more than a celebration of independence, saying it provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the nation’s journey, resilience and enormous potential.
He acknowledged the challenges confronting the country but expressed confidence that Nigeria possesses the human and institutional capacity to overcome its difficulties and build a more prosperous and stable future.
“Nigeria may be passing through challenging times, but our challenges are not greater than our collective capacity to overcome them. We must therefore continue to believe in Nigeria, support one another and remain committed to building a nation where peace, prosperity and opportunity can thrive,” he said.
Sanusi also encouraged Nigerians to sustain confidence in the ongoing reform efforts of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly initiatives targeted at economic stability, infrastructure development, citizen empowerment and long-term national development.
The Federal Government has described this year’s anniversary theme as “From Reforms to Stability: Consolidating Nigeria’s Renewed Hope for Shared Prosperity,” with officials saying the next phase of the reform programme is focused on translating economic stabilisation into broader opportunities and improved living conditions for citizens.
According to Sanusi, nation-building requires patience, sacrifice and participation beyond government alone.
He stressed that traditional institutions, business leaders, professionals, young people, community leaders and ordinary citizens all have important responsibilities in shaping the country’s future.
“Government has its role to play, but citizens, traditional institutions, business leaders, professionals, youths and communities also have important roles to play.
“Nigeria belongs to all of us, and its future must be built by all of us,” he stated.
The Okanlomo Oodua further called on Nigerians to place national interest above divisions and disagreements, urging citizens to promote unity, peaceful coexistence and constructive engagement.
He said the 66th Independence Anniversary should renew the collective commitment of Nigerians to building a country where every citizen can aspire to live, work and prosper in peace.
The Federal Government has similarly urged Nigerians to use the anniversary to demonstrate unity, patriotism, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, while reiterating its commitment to national security and public safety.
Sanusi congratulated Nigerians on the historic occasion and prayed for wisdom and strength for leaders at all levels of government.
He also prayed for continued peace, progress and prosperity across the federation.
“Let us put Nigeria first, promote unity over division, hope over despair and constructive engagement over unnecessary confrontation.
“May the Almighty continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria, our states and local communities, and grant our leaders wisdom and strength to serve the people.”
He concluded by urging Nigerians to remain hopeful and committed to the nation’s future.
