Staff of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) have made a voluntary donation of GHC800,000 to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, widely known as Mahama Cares, to support the Fund’s mandate of improving access to critical healthcare support.
The cheque was presented on behalf of the staff by the Chief Executive of the Authority, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, during a brief ceremony held at the offices of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund in Accra.
Dr Bampoe said the contribution was driven by the conviction of NHIA staff in the vision underpinning the establishment of the Fund and their desire to support its objectives.
“We believe in the vision of the President in setting up this Fund. We know it is something we must support, and we are proud of the work being done here at the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.
“Staff of NHIA decided, of their own volition, to come together to contribute their widow’s mite in support of the noble effort of the President and yourself,” Dr Bampoe stated.
Receiving the donation, the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Ms Obuobia Darko Opoku, expressed appreciation to the NHIA for its sustained support since the Fund was established.

She stated that beyond financial assistance, the Authority has consistently provided technical and human resource support, which she said has been critical to the Fund’s growth and operational progress.
“We want to appreciate you this morning and let you know that your efforts have brought us this far, and we know that your continued support will push us to even greater heights,” she said.
Ms Darko Opoku added that the Fund’s current achievements would not have been possible without the NHIA’s continued backing, and expressed optimism about deepening collaboration between the two institutions.
“We are because you are, and we are very grateful,” she added.

Dr Bampoe was accompanied to the event by members of the NHIA’s Executive Management, including the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Administration and Human Resource, Mr Raphael Segkpeb; the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Finance and Investment, Ms Anatu Anne Seidu Bogobiri; the Director of Administration, Mr Raymond Avinu; the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Oswald Essuah-Mensah; and the Director of Human Resource, Ms Auch Angela Dedenamo.
