Newmont Ahafo South Mines boosts agricultural support with GHC368,000 Farmers’ Day donation

Newmont Ahafo South Mines has strengthened its commitment to agriculture with a GH₵368,000 support package for this year’s Farmers’ Day in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region.

The donation included five Motor Kings with medium buckets, one large-bucket Motor King, a Royal motorbike, 30 bicycles, 10 boxes of cutlasses, five 42-inch Nasco televisions, 170 pairs of Wellington boots, 50 pieces of GTP Adepa fabric, and 480 branded Farmers’ Day T-shirts.

Alex Kofi Annin, General Manager of Newmont Ahafo South Mines, said the initiative reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to farmers and local livelihoods.

“Agriculture plays a key role in Ghana’s economy. Supporting this sector is part of our purpose to improve lives in the communities where we operate,” he said, adding that Newmont will continue to back Farmers’ Day celebrations nationwide.

Mr Annin highlighted farming as an essential partner industry, vital for food security and economic growth in the region.

The District Chief Executive for Asutifi North, Hafiz Dauda Dabeil, commended Newmont’s consistent support, noting its role in boosting agricultural productivity across the district and the wider Ahafo Region.

“Although Newmont is a mining company, its commitment to agriculture is remarkable. Their contributions help Asutifi North and the region to grow and feed Ghana,” he said.

Joseph Danso, Director of Social Performance at Newmont, pointed out the company’s two-decade-long dedication to Farmers’ Day.

“For more than 20 years, Newmont has supported district and regional celebrations to honour farmers’ hard work and resilience,” he said. “Even as a mining company, we recognise the central role of farming in ensuring food security and sustainable livelihoods.”

The donation underscores Newmont’s broader commitment to community development and its long-term partnership with farmers, whose efforts remain critical to sustaining livelihoods in the Ahafo Region.

This year’s Farmers’ Day is celebrated under the theme: “Grow Ghana, Eat Ghana.”
