NDC in damage-control mode after vote-buying claims in Ayawaso East

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted a three-member committee to investigate allegations of inducement and vote-buying during its Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries held on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

The decision follows reports of widespread electoral malpractices that emerged shortly after the internal contest, prompting the party to activate its disciplinary and accountability mechanisms.

In a statement issued by the NDC National Secretariat on Sunday,8 February, and signed by the general secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party said the committee will be chaired by Mr Kofi Totobi Quakyi, with Mahama Ayariga and legal practitioner Emefa Fugah serving as members.

The committee has been mandated to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations and is expected to submit its report by Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

According to the statement, the committee will not only determine the veracity of the claims but will also make appropriate recommendations, including sanctions where necessary.

“The Committee’s mandate will also include making recommendations on sustainable measures and reforms to decisively end the practice of inducement and vote buying in the Party’s internal electoral processes,” the statement read.

The NDC said the move is in line with its commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and ethical political conduct, stressing that the integrity of its internal elections remains a priority.

The party further assured its rank and file, stakeholders, and the general public that it remains resolute in upholding high standards of integrity in its internal processes.

Members and supporters have been urged to remain calm and allow the committee to carry out its work without interference, while the leadership promised to communicate further updates in due course.
