NACOC nets alleged drug kingpin in Budumburam swoop

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a 32-year-old woman believed to be a major player in the drug trade at Budumburam in the Gomoa East Municipality of the Central Region, following a targeted intelligence-led operation.

The suspect, identified as Rebecca Afia Naa Dei Kotei, popularly known as “Mother”, was picked up during a special anti-narcotics operation conducted on Friday, January 16, 2026, across Budumburam and adjoining communities.

According to NACOC, the operation formed part of its ongoing nationwide campaign against drug trafficking and substance abuse, aimed at dismantling networks involved in the distribution of illicit drugs across the country.

Investigators believe the suspect played a central role in the local drug trade and had, until now, managed to evade arrest despite sustained surveillance. Opinion leaders within the community had also reportedly raised concerns about her alleged activities prior to the operation.

During the raid, officers retrieved quantities of suspected cannabis, tramadol and other controlled substances, in addition to items believed to be connected to drug distribution.

NACOC officials say the Commission has received multiple complaints about drug-related activities linked to some of the individuals currently in custody, reinforcing the need for sustained operations in the area.

The Commission has reiterated its resolve to intensify enforcement actions as part of efforts to curb the growing threat of narcotics abuse and trafficking nationwide.

All suspects arrested in connection with the operation are expected to be processed and arraigned before court in accordance with the law.
