The Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament (MP) for the Effutu Constituency in the Central Region, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has pledged an amount of Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (Ghc20,000.00) towards the 60th anniversary legacy teachers’ bungalow project of the Abor Senior High School (ABORSCO) at Abor in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region.
The Minority Leader made the pledge in a speech read for him by his Senior Political Advisor and former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Effutu, Alhaji Zubairu Kassim at the 60th anniversary durbar of ABORSCO over the weekend.
Established on 1st October, 1965 through the initiative of the chiefs and people of Abor especially members of the then Abor Youth Association (AYA), ABORSCO currently has a student enrolment of 1,900 and 130 staff, with only 5 of them resident on campus. Many of the staff of the school live far away and commute daily to school, affecting supervision and their availability for extra-curricular activities. ‘Accommodation for staff is woefully inadequate’, the Headmaster, Rev. Dr. Seth Agbeyome lamented in his address at the 60th anniversary durbar.
It is against this background that during the launch of the 60th anniversary celebration of the school in March. 2025, a grounds-breaking ceremony was performed to kick-start the Ghc70,000.00 project which is currently at the foundation level, courtesy all the stakeholders including the Abor Secondary School Old Students’ Association (ASSOSA), one of whom by name Bernard Ahiafor, MP for Akatsi South and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, donated Ghc100,000.00 towards the project during the launch and an additional donation of Ghc50,000.00 during last Saturday’s anniversary towards the continuation of the bungalow edifice.
Making the pledge at the anniversary celebration, Mr Afenyo-Markin, who also has some roots from the Volta Region, lauded the founding fathers of ABORSCO as well as the management, staff and students of the school for the six decades of transformative academic accomplishments. According to him, the 60-year journey of ABORSCO reflects resilience, commitment and dedication to a long-standing vision and goal for the people of Abor and beyond.
The Effutu MP promised to liaise with his colleague MP and the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor for further assistance to ABORSCO in the coming weeks and months.

Afenyo-Markin urged the students and teachers to remain committed to the highest academic standards in the school, commending the immediate past final year students for recording 100 percent in the 2025 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in spite of the general poor performance by students across the country.
