Meiji signs Letter of Intent with Ghana to support sustainable cocoa industry

Meiji Holdings Co. Ltd. has signed a Letter of Intent with the Government of Ghana to strengthen cooperation towards the sustainable development of the cocoa industry and the promotion of a circular economy.

The agreement was signed by the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, on behalf of the Government of Ghana, at an event in Accra on Monday, September 14, 2026.

The Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Hiroshi Yoshimoto, signed on behalf of the Government of Japan, while the Chief Executive Officer of Meiji Holdings Co. Ltd. initialled the agreement on behalf of the company.

The signing formed part of activities marking the 100th anniversary of Meiji’s Milk Chocolate and is expected to strengthen cooperation between Ghana and Japan in developing a more sustainable cocoa sector.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, Meiji presented the Government of Ghana with 10,000 cacao bioplastic ballpoint pens as a token of appreciation for Ghana’s longstanding partnership and friendship with Japan.

Ms Ofosu-Adjare congratulated Meiji on reaching its 100th anniversary and expressed the government’s best wishes for the company’s continued growth and success.

Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Julius Debrah, called on relevant institutions to work closely together and maintain a strong focus on delivering results from the partnership.

He said the government received Meiji’s gesture in the spirit of friendship and partnership between Ghana and Japan.
