The Music Teacher and Choir Master of the Mafi Kumase Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Mr. Eric Selorm Ansah, has appealed to stakeholders, individuals, corporate organizations and event organizers to create opportunities for the school’s choir to perform at regional and national events. According to him, exposing the choir to larger platforms will motivate the students to sustain their interest in choral music while helping them develop their talents and confidence.
Mr. Ansah made the appeal during a ceremony to dedicate newly acquired choir robes for the school choir at the school’s campus at Mafi Kumase over the weekend. The choir robes, valued at some Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (Ghc50,000.00) was acquired through the support of friends, some stakeholders, individuals as well as some institutions within and outside the area not only to enhance the image of the choir but also motivate the students to learn hard and also give off their best.
He noted that the choir has consistently distinguished itself in choral music competitions since 2018, emerging champions in several national contests and earning recognition across the country till date. He highlighted the choir’s participation in the
2025 District Farmers’ Day celebration at Mafi Sasekpe in the Central Tongu District at the invitation of the District Chief Executive (DCE) and Member of Parliament (MP) of the area as well as a fulfilling appearance at the 75th anniversary celebration of Mawuli School at Ho in October, 2025 among others.
The Choir Master explained that the dedication of the ninety (90) new choir robes marks the beginning of a broader campaign aimed at acquiring additional robes to cater for the over 120-member choir. The choir, popularly known in many circles as the “Angelic Voices” or the “Azoizoi Choir”, has grown significantly over the years and continues to attract talented students.

Mr. Ansah used the occasion to renew his appeal to all stakeholders particularly well-meaning individuals and organizations including District Chief Executives (DCEs), Members of Parliament (MPs), Ministers of State as well as the media to help create the golden opportunity for the choir to perform at regional and national events and programmes.
The out-going President of the choir, Master Christopher Vayram Kitti and his successor, Master Nutefe Amuzu also added their voice in supporting the Choir Master’s appeal for opportunities’ support for the choir. They mentioned lack of a band set and other vital instruments such as keyboard and combo as some of the major challenges facing the choir. They wondered why a choir of their status should be lacking such basic musical instruments. Masters Kitti and Amuzu lamented that on many occasions, the choir has to hire or borrow such equipment and instruments from sister school or church choirs, a situation that does not auger well for their total development and progress.

The event attracted stakeholders from the education sector, the clergy, traditional authorities, and the music fraternity. School Choirs from Sogakope Senior High School (SOGASCO) and the St. Catherine Senior High School (SCASCO) at Agbakope, joined several church and community choirs to grace the occasion with spirited musical performances.
The Dufia of Mafi Abude, Togbe Awuku Kyerekwa Bokor III who chaired the function, encouraged the students to take both their academic studies and music seriously. He commended the Music and Choir Master, Mr. Eric Selorm Ansah for his sacrifices, commitment and exemplary leadership in transforming the choir to such an enviable state.
The event was marked by musical performances, worship, and expressions of gratitude from students, parents and supporters, all united in their commitment to advancing the vision of the Mafi Kumase SHTS Choir.
