Libyan side Al-Swehly announce signing of Ghana midfielder Kwasi Sibo
Libyan champions Al-Swehly have officially announced the signing of Ghana midfielder Kwasi Sibo, unveiling the 28-year-old in a heartwarming video that confirms the start of his new chapter in North African football.
Sibo joins Al-Swehly as a free agent on a three-year contract, with an option for a further year, following his departure from Spanish side Real Oviedo at the end of the 2025/26 season.
The move comes after a dramatic transfer saga that saw a proposed move to Turkish Super Lig side Gençlerbirligi collapse at the final hurdle, leaving the door open for Al-Swehly to present a lucrative offer.
Al-Swehly’s announcement of Sibo’s arrival was marked by a creative video that warmly welcomed the Black Stars midfielder.
The Ghanaian international will be a key part of their squad as they aim to make an impact on the continent.
The 28-year-old’s decision to move to Libya represents a significant career shift. Reports indicate the deal is worth in the region of $10 million. The financial package is understood to be part of a broader Libyan government-backed initiative to attract established African talent to the domestic league.
Sibo arrives in North Africa on the back of a strong showing for Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he featured in all four of the Black Stars’ matches. He played a total of 249 minutes in the tournament, starting in the goalless draw against England and also featuring against Panama, Croatia, and Colombia.
With his move now complete, Sibo will turn his focus to helping Al-Swehly in their CAF Champions League campaign, with the club set to face Zanzibar’s KVZ in the preliminary round.
