The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Ghana, in partnership with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), has launched the Accra Migrant Integration Initiative to improve migrants’ access to essential services and strengthen their inclusion in the city.
The initiative, supported by GIZ Ghana through the Community Response for Sustainable Reintegration of Migrants and Enhancement of Migration Management Services Project, was launched alongside the handover of the AMA Migrant Desk Management Platform.
The digital platform is designed to strengthen migrant case management, referrals and coordination among service providers, with the aim of making migration services more responsive and accessible.
The launch also marked the beginning of a pilot programme to support more than 200 migrants to obtain national identification and enrol in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The initiative is expected to help reduce barriers to healthcare, legal identity and social inclusion for participating migrants.
IOM Ghana and the AMA said the interventions would contribute to building a more inclusive Accra by enabling migrants to access essential services, participate more fully in community life and benefit from better coordinated migration support.

The initiative also seeks to strengthen local migration governance through partnerships, digital innovation and expanded access to public services.
The programme forms part of broader efforts by the partners to promote sustainable migrant reintegration and improve migration management at the local level.
