Henos Energy has officially commissioned Ghana’s first Drive-Thru Cylinder Distribution Outlet (CDO) at East Legon Hills in Accra, introducing an innovative approach to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distribution.
The facility aims to improve convenience, promote safety, and support the Mahama government’s 24-hour economy policy.
Operating under the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM), the facility enables motorists to drive in and exchange empty LPG cylinders for full ones, reducing waiting times and making LPG more accessible, particularly to customers who need gas outside traditional working hours.
In her remarks at the ceremony on Friday, the Director of Gas at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Akua Ntiwaa Kwakye, praised Henos Energy for emerging as a pacesetter in the implementation of the CRM.
She said the project demonstrated how innovation in the downstream petroleum sector could support the 24-hour economy while improving convenience and safety for consumers.
For his part, the Head of Gas and Commercial Regulation at the NPA, Obed Kraine Boachie, described the Drive-Thru CDO as a timely innovation that would make LPG cylinder exchange more convenient for consumers.
He commended Henos Energy for taking the lead in introducing the initiative, noting that it aligned with the government’s 24-hour economy agenda and represented a significant contribution to improving LPG accessibility and service delivery.
The Chief Executive Officer of Henos Energy, Henry Osei Yaw, announced the company’s ambitious plans to establish 30 Drive-Thru Cylinder Distribution Outlets across Ghana, beginning with five outlets in Accra before expanding to the Northern Region and other parts of the country.
According to him, the concept was inspired by customer feedback received over the past five years.

“Our customers have consistently told us they wanted a complete LPG solution that is accessible and convenient. That is what inspired the Drive-Thru concept,” he said.
Mr Osei Yaw explained that, beyond exchanging LPG cylinders, the outlets were designed to provide customers with a complete LPG solution by stocking cylinders, regulators, and other LPG accessories required for safe and efficient use.
He said the company would accept damaged LPG cylinders from customers and replace them with safe cylinders in line with the CRM.
It is also developing a digital platform in collaboration with Mobile Money (MoMo) service providers to enable customers to order LPG through a mobile application.
Mr Osei Yaw expressed appreciation to the NPA and the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) for their unwavering support in making the project a reality.
The commissioning of the Drive-Thru Cylinder Distribution Outlet marks a significant step in modernizing LPG distribution in Ghana by delivering safer, faster, and more convenient services, creating jobs, and bringing cleaner energy solutions closer to communities.
Also present at the unveiling were the Director of Corporate Affairs at the NPA, Maria Edith Oquaye, and the Head of Business Development at the NPA, Ossei Yaw Danquah.
