The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has assured residents of the Oti Region of government’s commitment to strengthening the health sector to address persistent challenges and improve health indicators.
The assurance was given during a two-day working visit to the region, undertaken to assess conditions within health facilities and engage key stakeholders on improving service delivery.
As part of the visit, Mr Akandoh met behind closed doors with the Oti Regional Minister, Members of Parliament, District Chief Executives, and health officials to discuss measures to attract and retain medical professionals in the region. The meeting revealed that only two out of 23 medical doctors posted to the region last year reported for duty, a situation described as a major setback to healthcare delivery.
The Minister urged local leaders, including chiefs, religious leaders, opinion leaders and political authorities, to work closely with central government to reverse the trend and support healthcare reforms in the region.
Mr Akandoh was also taken to inspect a 100-acre tract of land earmarked for the construction of the Oti Regional Hospital, a project expected to significantly improve access to quality healthcare services when completed.
At a town hall engagement, the Health Minister appealed for community support, stressing that improving health outcomes required a shared responsibility between government and local communities.

He later toured several health facilities, including Dambai Polyclinic, Worawora District Hospital, and Jasikan District Hospital, where he interacted with medical staff and commended them for their dedication despite limited resources.
