GoldBod generates .87bn in forex from gold trading in September

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) generated US$1.871 billion in foreign exchange from its artisanal and small-scale mining gold trading operations in September 2026.

The figure exceeded GoldBod’s monthly target of US$1.4 billion by US$471 million.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 30, GoldBod said US$701.3 million of the amount was sold to authorised commercial banks to support stability in the foreign exchange market.

It said a further US$1.170 billion was provided to the Bank of Ghana to support the accumulation of foreign exchange reserves.

GoldBod said the amount sold to commercial banks was slightly above its target of US$700 million, while the funds provided to the central bank exceeded its US$700 million target by US$470 million.

For October, GoldBod has set a foreign exchange generation target of US$1.5 billion from its gold trading operations.

It expects to make US$1 billion available to commercial banks and up to US$500 million to the Bank of Ghana for reserve accumulation under the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Policy (GANRAP).

GoldBod said the October forex sales will be carried out under its new Spot FX Sales/Intermediation Framework.

According to the Board, the framework is intended to promote transparency, fairness and compliance with regulatory requirements.

GoldBod said it will continue working with relevant stakeholders to support Ghana’s foreign exchange market and reserve management objectives.
