GIADEC secures m deal to fast-track Nyinahin bauxite project

Government’s aluminium development agenda has received a major financial boost after the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) sealed a US$60 million medium-term financing facility with Metalloïd Resources Investment – LLC-S.P.C and Ghana Integrated Bauxite Development Limited Company (GIBDLC) to accelerate mining operations at Nyinahin in the Ashanti Region.

The agreement, which was executed in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, January 14, is being positioned as a critical step in Ghana’s long-term plan to build a fully integrated aluminium industry, anchored on the exploitation of the country’s estimated 920 million tonnes of bauxite reserves.

Under the deal, the initial phase of funding will be directed at developing mining activities across Hills One, Two and Three within the Nyinahin concession. Production, according to officials, will be expanded gradually as infrastructure and operational capacity improve.

The facility is expected to provide the financial backbone for the establishment of a large-scale bauxite mine at Nyinahin — a project central to GIADEC’s broader vision of transforming Ghana from a raw mineral exporter into a country capable of supporting the entire aluminium value chain, from extraction to refining and downstream manufacturing.

Beyond industrial ambitions, the project is projected to generate over 1,500 direct jobs, promote local content participation, and inject significant economic value into host communities and the national economy.

Chief Executive Officer of GIADEC, Reindorf Twumasi Ankrah, described the agreement as more than a financing arrangement, calling it a strategic milestone in Ghana’s industrialisation journey.

“This partnership marks a crucial step towards realising Ghana’s industrialisation ambitions,” he said.

On his part, Ali Bin Jerais, Chief Executive Officer of Metalloïd Resources Investment, said the decision to commit such funding reflected growing international confidence in Ghana’s aluminium potential and the viability of the Nyinahin concession.

“This facility represents a strong vote of confidence in Ghana’s long-term aluminium vision and in the Nyinahin bauxite concession as a globally competitive resource,” he noted.

He stressed that Metalloïd’s approach would prioritise sustainable development, responsible investment practices, and adherence to international mining standards.

“Beyond production growth, this project is about building local capability, creating meaningful employment, and laying the foundations for a fully integrated aluminium value chain that delivers enduring economic impact for Ghana,” he added.
