The Ghana Medical Trust Fund has stepped in to provide critical support for a young patient at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), underscoring its commitment to urgent, life-saving medical interventions.
The support was extended to 25-year-old Aminu Taibu, who is battling ischaemic heart disease. His request for assistance was submitted to the Trust Fund, which is currently in the pilot phase of 50 cases ahead of its official nationwide rollout.
As part of this initiative, a payment of GH¢25,750 was made directly to UGMC to cover Mr. Taibu’s urgent treatment needs. The contribution was formally received by Dr. Abdul-Samed Tanko, CEO of UGMC, whose leadership and assurances reaffirmed the quality of care provided by the hospital.
The pilot phase of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund is designed to enable rapid responses to critical medical cases, ensuring that patients receive timely care when it is most needed. This intervention demonstrates the Fund’s ability to act decisively in supporting life-saving treatments.

“Through this support, a young life has been given a renewed chance,” the Trust Fund said, noting that the initiative reflects its ongoing commitment to delivering tangible impact where it matters most.
Mr. Taibu’s case highlights the crucial role of public-private partnerships in strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system and ensuring that urgent medical needs are addressed promptly. The pilot phase serves as a model for expanding access to essential treatments across the country.
