GAF denies reports claiming 60% of military applicants tested HIV positive

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has strongly refuted reports circulating in sections of the media suggesting that about 60 per cent of applicants participating in the ongoing military recruitment exercise have tested positive for HIV.

In a statement signed by the Acting Director of General Public Relations, Veronica Adzo Arhin, the Armed Forces described the publication as “FAKE NEWS” and urged the public to disregard the claims entirely.

According to GAF, the medical screening process is still ongoing, and no official results have been released.

“The publication is false and should be treated with the contempt it deserves,” the statement stressed.

The Armed Forces disclosed that steps have been initiated to trace and identify the individuals behind what it described as a mischievous and misleading report.

It warned that the spread of unverified information on sensitive matters such as military recruitment and public health has the potential to cause unnecessary panic and damage the credibility of national institutions. “The general public is hereby informed that all necessary steps are underway to trace the originators of the mischievous story,” the statement said.

GAF further cautioned media practitioners, bloggers, vloggers and content creators to uphold ethical standards and ensure proper verification of information before publication.
