Electoral Commission postpones District Assembly and Unit Committee by-elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced an indefinite postponement of the upcoming District Assembly and Unit Committee By-elections.

In a press release issued today and signed by Mr. Fred Tetteh, Deputy Director of the Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation Department, the Commission informed the general public that the elections “have been put on hold until further notice.”

The brief statement did not provide specific reasons for the postponement, citing only that “new dates will be announced in due course.”

This decision puts on hold the electoral process intended to fill vacancies in various District Assemblies and Unit Committees across the country. These local government structures are critical for grassroots administration and community development.

Stakeholders, including prospective candidates, political parties, and civil society organizations, are now awaiting further communication from the Commission regarding the timeline for the rescheduled by-elections.
