United States forward Benjamin Cremaschi finished as the standout striker of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, claiming the Golden Boot after scoring five goals in a tournament that crowned Morocco as champions for the first time in history.
The 19-year-old attacker proved to be one of the most consistent performers throughout the competition, leading the American side to an impressive run before bowing out in the semifinals.
Cremaschi’s composure in front of goal set him apart, edging out Colombia’s Neyser Villareal and France’s Lucas Michel, who also hit five goals but fell short on assists.
While Cremaschi stole the headlines for the USA, the biggest story came from North Africa, as Morocco defeated Argentina 2-0 in the final at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago to lift their first FIFA U-20 World Cup trophy.
Yassir Zabiri was Morocco’s hero on the night, scoring twice in the first half to silence the defending champions. His brilliant form earned him the Silver Ball, while his teammate Othmane Maamma was named the tournament’s best player, taking home the Golden Ball.
Argentina’s Milton Delgado received the Bronze Ball, and his teammate Santino Barbi was rewarded with the Golden Glove for his outstanding goalkeeping performances. The Fair Play Award went to the United States for their discipline throughout the competition.
