AC4NCA strengthens ties with Mexican Embassy to advance global climate action

In a bid to deepen international cooperation on climate change, the Africa Centre for Nature-based Climate Action (AC4NCA) has engaged the Embassy of Mexico in Accra to explore potential partnerships and shared initiatives.

A delegation from AC4NCA, led by its Global Lead, Samuel A. Jinapor, MP, paid a courtesy call on the Embassy to officially introduce the Centre, outline its mission, and discuss avenues for collaboration. He was accompanied by the Board Chair, Rev. Dr Joyce Aryee, and the Acting Executive Secretary, Juliet Osei-Wusu.

The team was warmly welcomed by the Deputy Head of Mission, H.E. Fernando Alvarado Valenzuela, who commended the establishment of AC4NCA and expressed Mexico’s readiness to support efforts aimed at addressing climate challenges through nature-based solutions.

In his remarks, the Deputy Ambassador stressed the urgency of tackling climate change as a global issue that transcends borders, calling for collective action and stronger international partnerships.

Rev. Joyce Aryee underscored the importance of fostering synergy among diverse stakeholders, including governments, non-governmental organisations, research institutions and local communities.

She emphasised that no single entity can effectively combat climate change in isolation, making inclusive and coordinated approaches essential.

Samuel Jinapor highlighted Mexico’s significant achievements in biodiversity conservation and forest management. He acknowledged the country’s leading role in implementing forward-looking environmental initiatives and expressed the Centre’s interest in partnering with Mexican civil society organisations engaged in similar efforts.

Such collaborations, he said, are critical for sharing expertise, innovative strategies and practical solutions.

In response, H.E. Valenzuela conveyed strong interest in facilitating connections between AC4NCA and relevant Mexican NGOs to enhance cooperation and promote South-South collaboration. He reaffirmed Mexico’s commitment to working with African partners to strengthen global climate resilience.

The meeting ended with a shared pledge to collaborate closely, exchange knowledge, and build capacity to contribute to sustainable development and climate adaptation efforts worldwide.

This engagement signals a promising step towards stronger ties between Africa and Mexico in advancing nature-based solutions and reinforcing global climate action.
