Abiru: ‘The Road Is Terrible, Will Worsen With Rain’ – Lagos Residents Lament Over ‘Abandoned’ Project

The Senator representing Lagos East, Tokunbo Abiru, has been urged to return to Ondo Street in Irawo and complete a road project he allegedly sponsored, but which residents say has become dilapidated.

Leading the call is former councillorship aspirant for Ward G (Owode-Ajegunle), Akinmusire Ademola, who expressed concern that the partially ‘completed’ project could deteriorate further as the rainy season approaches.

According to him, work on the road began around October last year and was reportedly completed in December.

“So late last year they started the project at Ondo Street in Irawo,” Ademola noted during an exclusive chat with Naija News correspondent.

“I think around October they started the Ondo Street project, and they finished it in December. That’s according to them. According to them, they said they finished it.”

However, he questioned the claim of completion, alleging that only a small portion of the road was rehabilitated.

“If you see the road they finished, it was actually an abandoned project that they claimed they finished. So they only put, they only covered just small parts of that Ondo Street,” Ademola stated.

He explained that construction work allegedly stopped around Ojomo Plaza, leaving the remaining stretch in poor condition.

“If you pass that Ondo Street from the Bus Stop, if you reach that place that they built, that Ojomo Plaza, that’s where they now stop.

“Then the rest, the road is terrible; they did not cover it. And rain is about to start, and that place will start getting terrible,” he added.

Ademola expressed concern that, without urgent intervention, the unfinished portion could become impassable once heavy rains begin.

Appeal To Senator Abiru

The former aspirant said information available to residents indicated that the project was sponsored by Senator Tokunbo Abiru.

“From the information we have, we heard that it’s Senator Tokunbo Abiru who sponsored the project,” Ademola said.

He therefore appealed to the lawmaker to revisit the site and ensure the project is properly completed.

“So this, we want to use this publication to appeal to him to come and continue the job,” Ademola noted.

Residents of the area, he said, are hopeful that the senator will respond positively to the call and ensure the entire stretch of the road is rehabilitated to ease movement and prevent further deterioration.

Meanwhile, when contacted, the CDA Chairman, Mr Abdul, corroborated Ademola’s claims. However, he could not speak further at the time of filing this report, but promised to provide more details later.

Another resident who briefly spoke to our correspondent, Mr Godwin Moses, confirmed the development and also promised to call back as he was engaged. However, he has not returned the call or responded to messages sent to him as of the time of filing this report.
