Health Ministry to investigate Fourth Estate exposè on Ridge Hospital

The Ministry of Health has confirmed it will probe allegations of poor treatment and misconduct at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, widely known as Ridge Hospital, following an investigative report by The Fourth Estate that has stirred public concern online.

In a statement, the Ministry said it had taken note of the report, which has been widely circulated on social media.

“The Ministry of Health has taken note of an investigative report published by The Fourth Estate media house on the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge,” the statement said.

The Ministry expressed sympathy for patients and families who may have experienced unprofessional treatment in health facilities.

“The Ministry sympathises with patients and relatives who may have been subjected to any form of unprofessional conduct in any health facility across the country,” it added.

It also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to easing the burden on patients seeking healthcare.

“Government remains committed to reducing the stress and financial burden patients face in accessing healthcare,” the release stated. Alarmed by the report’s findings, the Ministry said the issues require careful scrutiny.

“We are deeply concerned and surprised by some of the revelations contained in the report. The Ministry considers the issues raised as serious and deserving of thorough examination,” it stated.

To investigate the claims, the Ministry said it is forming a committee with a defined timeline for reporting. “Accordingly, the Ministry of Health is in the process of constituting an investigative committee to look into the matter,” it said.

“The committee is expected to submit its report within fourteen (14) working days,” the statement added.

The Ministry called on all relevant parties, including The Fourth Estate, to cooperate fully to establish the facts and improve service delivery.

“The Ministry expects the full cooperation of all relevant stakeholders, including The Fourth Estate, to help unravel the facts and provide additional details necessary to ensure accountability and improve service delivery within our health system,” it concluded.
