Employees of GCB Bank PLC’s Operations Department have restored water supply to the ObeyeyieHealth Centre and donated essential medical equipment to support healthcare delivery for residents of Obeyeyie and seven surrounding communities in the Ga West District of the Greater Accra Region.
The intervention forms part of GCB Bank’s Staff Community Impact Programme (SCIP), an employee-led corporate social responsibility initiative through which more than 4,500 employees, working in 95 teams, are implementing 95 community projects across Ghana. The programme focuses on addressing practical community needs and aims to positively impact up to one million Ghanaians through interventions in health, education, sanitation, environmental sustainability and community development.
The project was undertaken by Operations Department Group 1 following engagement with stakeholders at the health centre, who highlighted persistent challenges related to water supply and the availability of essential medical equipment. The facility serves Obeyeyie and seven neighbouring communities, making it a critical healthcare provider within the district.
Prior to the intervention, the health centre relied on purchased water stored in poly tanks to meet its daily operational needs. This arrangement created significant challenges for both healthcare workers and patients, with expectant mothers and their families sometimes required to provide water during deliveries. The facility also faced shortages of key medical equipment needed to support efficient healthcare services.
To address these challenges, the team rehabilitated the facility’s borehole by replacing its faulty pump, restoring a reliable and sustainable source of water. In addition, essential medical equipment was procured and donated based on a needs assessment and technical specifications provided by the health centre. The intervention is expected to benefit approximately 5,000 people directly and indirectly across the communities served by the facility.
Speaking on the significance of SCIP, Cynthia Eyram Ofori-Dwumfwo, Chief Marketing, Communications and Customer Experience Officer of GCB Bank, said the programme empowers employees to respond directly to community needs through practical and sustainable interventions.
“SCIP brings together the collective effort of our employees to support communities across Ghana. Each group has taken responsibility for identifying an area where it can contribute, and together these individual efforts are creating a wider social impact. It reflects the belief that meaningful change can start with the actions of our own people.” He added.

For the Operations team, supporting the health centre was an opportunity to address challenges that directly affect the quality of healthcare available to the community. Dominic Cobbinah, Head of Operations and a member of the project team, said the condition of the facility’s water system was a key concern.
“Reliable access to water is fundamental to the effective operation of any healthcare facility. When we learned about the difficulties the health centre was facing, we felt it was important to help address the challenge. By restoring the borehole and providing essential medical equipment, we hope to support healthcare workers in delivering quality care and improve the experience of patients who depend on the facility.”
Receiving the items on behalf of the health centre and local health authorities, Dr Yaa Danquah, District Director of Health Services, expressed appreciation to GCB Bank and the employee volunteers for the support. She noted that the restoration of the borehole and the provision of essential medical equipment would help ease operational challenges at the facility and strengthen healthcare delivery across the communities it serves.
The intervention is expected to create lasting value through the continued use and maintenance of the rehabilitated borehole and donated equipment, enabling the health centre to provide more reliable and efficient healthcare services for years to come.

The Obeyeyie Health Centre Project is the 24th of 95 SCIP projects being implemented by GCB Bank employees across Ghana, reflecting the Bank’s commitment to delivering practical and sustainable impact in communities nationwide.
