NPA steps up staff welfare with new allowances, extended paternity leave

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has stepped up efforts to improve staff welfare, introducing new allowances, increasing travelling benefits and extending paternity leave as part of measures to create a more supportive workplace for its employees.

The interventions were highlighted by the Chief Executive of the NPA, Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, at the launch of the Authority’s 2026 Staff Welfare Celebration in Accra on Monday, September 28, 2026.

The week-long celebration, being held under the theme “Our People, Our Teamwork and the Spirit That Makes NPA One Family,” is focused on promoting employee well-being, teamwork, entrepreneurship and a stronger sense of belonging among staff.

Addressing employees, Tameklo commended them for their dedication and commitment to the Authority and reaffirmed management’s determination to address staff welfare concerns.

He said recent interventions include the introduction of responsibility and professional allowances, an increase in travelling allowances and an extension of paternity leave days, among other measures aimed at improving conditions for employees.

According to the NPA Chief Executive, management’s commitment to staff welfare is intended to create an enabling environment in which employees can thrive and contribute effectively to the Authority’s mandate.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Richard Gyan Mensah, who was Special Guest of Honour at the launch, underscored the importance of putting employee welfare at the centre of institutional management.

He said a motivated, healthy and respected workforce was essential to institutional effectiveness, particularly given the NPA’s critical role in Ghana’s energy sector.

“The NPA plays a pivotal role in Ghana’s energy sector and, for this reason, staff welfare must never be regarded as an afterthought. A motivated, healthy and respected workforce is fundamental to institutional effectiveness,” he said.

The outgoing Chairman of the Welfare Committee, Ernest Ayeh Darteh, also highlighted the important contribution of staff to the success and growth of the Authority.

Beyond internal welfare initiatives, the NPA also used the celebration to extend its social impact to communities, commissioning two 20,000-litre-capacity boreholes at Mangoase and Tinkong in the Eastern Region under its corporate social responsibility programme.

The week-long celebration will feature an entrepreneurial fair for staff, a sustainable waste management workshop and a quiz competition involving directorates and regional offices. The programme will conclude with a wrap-up party on Friday.

The 2026 Staff Welfare Celebration reinforces the NPA’s focus on employee well-being, collaboration and a workplace culture that recognises staff as central to the Authority’s performance and organisational growth.
