Petroleum Commission, Kosmos Energy sign deal to send Ghanaian engineers to US

The Petroleum Commission and Kosmos Energy Ghana have signed an agreement to second engineers of the Commission to the energy company’s facilities in Texas, United States.

The agreement will enable selected Commission engineers to work at Kosmos Energy’s Texas facilities, where they are expected to gain hands-on exposure to specialised technical operations and international petroleum industry practices.

The arrangement forms part of efforts by the Petroleum Commission to strengthen the technical expertise of its workforce and build the capacity required to effectively regulate Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector.

The Commission said the practical experience gained through the secondment would contribute to strengthening its institutional capacity and improving the technical capabilities available for upstream petroleum regulation in Ghana.

At the signing, the Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission and the Managing Director of Kosmos Energy Ghana highlighted the importance of partnerships between regulators and industry players in developing Ghana’s petroleum workforce.

The Commission described the agreement as an investment in the country’s technical capacity and the future of the upstream petroleum industry.

It also commended Kosmos Energy Ghana for supporting the initiative.
