Aaron Opoku scores in Braunschweigâ??s defeat to Hertha BSC
German-Ghanaian attacker Aaron Opoku delivered a bright individual performance, but Eintracht Braunschweig still lost 5-3 to Hertha BSC in an entertaining 2. Bundesliga clash.
Braunschweig led early through Yann Sturm before Hertha stormed back in a game packed with momentum shifts and late drama.
Opoku was heavily involved in the home side’s best attacks. In the 33rd minute, he whipped in the cross for Kevin Ehlers’ header to make it 2-0, and he continued to create chances after the break, setting up Max Marie and Lino Tempelmann as Braunschweig tried to stay in touch.
Hertha responded with goals from Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson and Josip Brekalo before the interval, then took control after the restart when Kevin Ehlers turned the ball into his own net and Brekalo converted a penalty.
Opoku nearly added a goal of his own late on, but Marius Gersbeck saved his shot from distance in the 88th minute.
Braunschweig did pull one back through Jan Urbich and Oluwaseun Adewumi made it five for Hertha.
Eintracht Braunschweig will play VfL Osnabruck in their next game on September 6th.
