Prince Amoako Junior scores for Nordsjaelland against St Gallen

Ghanaian forward Prince Amoako Junior was on the scoresheet on Thursday as FC Nordsjælland battled FC St. Gallen 1879 in a thrilling UEFA Europa Conference League qualification playoff clash at the Sitterstadion.

The Danish side fell behind early when Juho Lahteenmäki opened the scoring in the 14th minute, before St. Gallen doubled their advantage through a Lukas Gortler penalty in the 21st minute after a VAR review.

Nordsjælland responded quickly, and it was Amoako Junior who halved the deficit in the 24th minute, finishing smartly to make it 1-2 and swing momentum back in the visitors’ favor.

The Ghanaian’s intervention proved crucial, as Aliou Balde leveled matters at 2-2 four minutes before halftime, sending the sides in level at the break. Crucially, thanks to the away goal and overall aggregate scoring across the tie, Nordsjælland headed into the second half holding a 3-2 aggregate advantage.

St. Gallen were reduced to ten men in the second period after Mihailo Stevanovic picked up a second yellow card, leaving Nordsjælland well placed to close out the tie.
