Mahama orders GHC2 reduction in diesel price margin for one month

President John Dramani Mahama has directed a temporary reduction of GHC2 in the regulatory margin on diesel as the government moves to cushion consumers against rising fuel prices.

The directive, announced on Monday, 3 August 2026, follows a Cabinet decision and mirrors a similar intervention implemented in April 2026.

According to the president’s spokesperson and minister for government communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the reduction is aimed at preventing further increases in transport fares, containing inflationary pressures, and reducing the impact of higher fuel costs on households and businesses.

The measure will take effect on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, and will remain in place for one month unless the government reviews the decision.

The intervention comes amid concerns over rising petroleum prices driven by developments in the international energy market and currency pressures.

The government said it will continue monitoring global energy market trends and introduce additional measures where necessary to protect consumers and support economic recovery.
