ACEP, Solar Taxi graduate 24 women in green energy technologies

The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), in partnership with Solar Taxi, has graduated the first cohort of the Green Energy Technology Capacity Development Programme (GET-CaDeP), equipping 24 young women with practical skills in solar energy, electric vehicle (EV) and battery technologies.

The four-month programme combined intensive classroom training with industry internships, preparing participants with the technical knowledge and hands-on experience needed to contribute to Ghana’s clean energy transition and address the gender gap in the country’s rapidly expanding green technology sector.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, ACEP’s Policy Lead for Petroleum and Conventional Energy, Kodzo Yaotse, described the initiative as a deliberate intervention to increase women’s participation in Ghana’s clean energy and technology industries.

He said the programme was designed to empower young women with in-demand technical skills while creating pathways for greater inclusion in sectors that have traditionally been dominated by men.

Chief Executive Officer of Solar Taxi, Jorge Appiah, congratulated the graduates for their determination and discipline throughout the programme, commending them for excelling in technical fields often perceived as male-dominated.

He encouraged the graduates to see the training not as the end of their journey but as a foundation for future leadership, innovation and policymaking within Ghana’s energy sector.

The GET-CaDeP initiative forms part of broader efforts to build a skilled workforce capable of supporting Ghana’s transition to sustainable energy while promoting greater gender diversity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The graduation of the pioneering cohort marks a significant milestone in developing local expertise for the country’s growing renewable energy and electric mobility industries, while inspiring more young women to pursue careers in green technology.
