World Cup 2026: ‘We understand their feelings’ – Jonas Adjetey defends Ghana fans amid criticism

Black Stars defender Jonas Adjetey has defended Ghana supporters, saying criticism directed at the national team is driven by passion and emotional investment rather than hostility.

The 22-year-old VfL Wolfsburg centre-back, who has been one of Ghana’s breakout stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, said players fully understand the reaction of fans following matches, particularly in high-pressure tournaments.

Adjetey has been a key figure in Ghana’s defensive unit, helping the Black Stars reach the Round of 32 after three disciplined Group L performances that included two clean sheets.

He admitted that while some comments from supporters can be harsh, players recognise the sacrifices fans make to follow and support the team.

“Some people may say things they shouldn’t after games, but we understand their feelings because they spend their money to come and support us.”

The defender stressed that such reactions are part of football and that players must remain mentally strong when dealing with public scrutiny.

Ghana will face Colombia in the round of 32 on Saturday in Kansas City.
