The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has assured businesses and taxpayers that it is taking steps to ensure uninterrupted tax and customs services as persistent heavy rains continue to batter Accra and other parts of the country.
In a statement issued on Monday (29 June), the Authority acknowledged that the ongoing downpours have the potential to disrupt transport networks, delay the movement of goods and affect normal business operations, placing additional strain on businesses striving to meet customer demands and regulatory obligations.
The GRA said it has activated measures across its operational centres to minimise disruptions and maintain critical services despite the adverse weather conditions.
“The Commissioner-General acknowledges that severe weather can disrupt transport, delay the movement of goods, affect business operations, and create additional pressure for businesses already working to meet customer and regulatory obligations,” the statement said.
According to the Authority, teams stationed at the country’s ports, border posts and Taxpayer Service Centres (TSCs) have put contingency measures in place to guarantee the continued delivery of both Customs and Domestic Tax services.
The GRA noted that its immediate priority is to ensure legitimate trade continues to flow while reducing avoidable delays that could negatively impact businesses.
It therefore encouraged businesses to plan ahead, make greater use of its digital platforms where possible, anticipate transportation delays and prioritise the safety of their employees during the period of unstable weather.
“No business activity is more important than protecting lives,” the Authority stressed.
The GRA further reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the private sector while safeguarding domestic revenue mobilisation, which remains crucial to financing national development.
As weather forecasts predict more rainfall in the coming days, the Authority urged taxpayers and the general public to remain vigilant and comply with safety directives issued by the country’s emergency response and meteorological agencies.
The statement concluded by wishing all taxpayers a safe week and reiterating the GRA’s commitment to maintaining business continuity throughout the period of heavy rains.
