Residents of the Monome-Dzrakate Electoral Area in the Volta Region are mobilising for a peaceful demonstration to protest what they describe as the continued occupation of their farmlands by nomadic Fulani cattle herders, despite an earlier ultimatum ordering them to leave.
The planned protest follows months of growing tension between local farmers and the herders, whose cattle are allegedly grazing on cultivated lands, threatening crops and the livelihoods of residents.
In a public appeal dated 26 June 2026, the Assembly Member for the Monome-Dzrakate Electoral Area, Hon. Neyram Satsi, called on churches, businesses, organisations and well-meaning individuals to provide financial and logistical support to facilitate the demonstration.
According to the appeal, the Assembly Member had previously issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Fulani herders to vacate the affected communities in order to safeguard the investments of local farmers. However, the ultimatum has reportedly not yielded the desired outcome, prompting residents to resort to a peaceful protest.
“The situation remains unresolved,” the appeal stated, adding that many farmers now live in constant fear of losing their crops and means of livelihood due to the activities of the cattle.
The statement noted that the decision to embark on the demonstration was reached collectively by the youth, traditional leaders, elders and concerned residents after what they consider to be months of inaction.
To organise the protest, organisers are seeking to raise GH¢1,946 to cover essential logistical expenses, including security arrangements, public announcements and demonstration materials.
The proposed budget allocates GH¢500 for fuel for a police patrol vehicle to provide security during the demonstration, GH¢300 for radio announcements, GH¢300 for wooden boards for placards, GH¢270 for wood to construct placard frames, GH¢240 for refreshments for security personnel, GH¢140 for sachet water, GH¢96 for bottled water, GH¢70 for glucose drinks and GH¢30 for nails.
Hon. Satsi appealed to members of the public to contribute towards the exercise, stressing that no donation is too small. Contributions can be sent via Mobile Money to 055 661 9864, registered in the name of Neyram Satsi.
“Every donation is greatly appreciated,” the appeal said.
The protest is expected to draw the attention of the relevant state authorities to what residents describe as a worsening conflict between farming communities and nomadic cattle herders.
Recurring disputes involving Fulani cattle herders and farming communities have remained a major security concern in several parts of Ghana over the years, often resulting in the destruction of crops, clashes between farmers and herders, and demands for stronger enforcement of laws regulating grazing activities.
Residents of Monome-Dzrakate hope their planned demonstration will compel the appropriate authorities to intervene decisively to protect farmlands, safeguard farmers’ investments and restore peace to the affected communities.
