NACOC seizes 2.3 tonnes of suspected cannabis in Volta Region raid

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has seized more than 2.3 tonnes of suspected cannabis during an intelligence-led operation at Gbi-Wegbe near Hohoe in the Volta Region.

The operation resulted in the confiscation of 2,372.38 kilogrammes of suspected cannabis with an estimated street value of GH¢1.18 million.

According to NACOC, the drugs were discovered during a targeted raid on a farmhouse and warehouse facility believed to have been used as a storage point for illegal narcotics.

The operation was carried out in the early hours of Sunday, May 31, following intelligence gathered by the Commission on suspected drug trafficking activities in the area.

Officials said the raid forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the production, transportation and distribution of illegal drugs across the country.

NACOC indicated that the seizure is one of the latest interventions under its campaign against drug-related crime and organised narcotics networks.

No arrests have been announced in connection with the operation.

However, the Commission said investigations are continuing to identify and apprehend individuals linked to the facility and the suspected drugs.

NACOC reiterated its commitment to tackling drug trafficking and substance abuse, stressing the need to protect communities from the harmful effects of illicit narcotics.

The Commission said it would continue to work with intelligence and law enforcement agencies to dismantle drug networks operating within the country.
