Trade Ministry to overhaul industrial policy after sweeping survey revelations

The Ministry of Trade and Industry is set to reshape Ghana’s industrial and trade policy direction following the review of key findings from a nationwide survey on the country’s trade and industrial landscape.

This follows the final policy dialogue held in Accra on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, which brought together policymakers, industry players, and development partners to assess evidence from the survey and chart a clearer path for Ghana’s industrial transformation agenda.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Trade and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, government reiterated its commitment to integrating the survey’s recommendations into upcoming trade and industrial policy frameworks.

The Minister stressed that future policy direction will be anchored on practical, data-driven insights rather than broad assumptions, arguing that aligning reforms with ground realities is essential for sustainable economic growth and stronger industrial development.

The Accra dialogue served as a high-level platform for engagement among stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector actors, and development partners, who examined the challenges and opportunities shaping Ghana’s trade competitiveness.

Discussions focused on strategies to strengthen local industries, improve productivity, expand export capacity, and create sustainable employment opportunities, particularly for young people entering the labour market.

Participants also emphasised the need for coordinated implementation of policy recommendations, noting that Ghana’s industrial growth ambitions will depend on how effectively identified gaps are addressed across production, infrastructure, and market access systems.

The Ministry said the outcomes of the dialogue will directly inform the formulation of upcoming Trade and Industry policies, as government seeks to build a more resilient and competitive industrial base.

It added that continued stakeholder engagement will remain central to the policy process as Ghana positions itself for stronger integration into regional and global trade systems.
