Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, has intensified efforts to position Ghana as a leading hub for digital transformation in Africa following high-level discussions with Microsoft.
The meeting, held in Washington last Friday, formed part of a broader diplomatic and economic strategy by the Embassy of Ghana in the United States aimed at attracting advanced technology partnerships, expanding digital infrastructure, and equipping Ghana’s workforce with modern digital skills.
Ambassador Smith described the engagement as “insightful and encouraging,” stressing that Ghana’s development priorities strongly align with Microsoft’s expertise in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and digital capacity building.
According to him, Ghana remains committed to harnessing innovation and technology to drive inclusive economic growth, improve public service delivery, and create sustainable employment opportunities for the country’s growing youthful population.
A major outcome of the discussions was an agreement by both parties to establish a joint working group to transform the engagements into practical programmes and long-term collaborations.
The working group is expected to focus on digital skills training, enterprise innovation, and the expansion of cloud-based technological solutions through Microsoft’s Azure platform.

Officials from Microsoft reportedly expressed optimism about the proposed partnership, highlighting the potential of digital technologies to support Ghana’s broader development agenda and strengthen the country’s participation in the global digital economy.
The technology giant also indicated its readiness to facilitate further engagements and connect relevant technical teams to accelerate implementation of proposed initiatives.
Since assuming office, Ambassador Smith has pursued strategic partnerships designed to generate tangible economic benefits for Ghana, particularly in the areas of investment, technology, and innovation.

His engagement with major global technology firms reflects Ghana’s broader ambition to deepen economic cooperation with the United States while positioning itself as a forward-looking economy ready to embrace digital transformation.
The latest discussions are expected to further enhance Ghana’s reputation as an emerging technology and innovation destination on the African continent.
