Two killed, several injured in suspected ambush on passenger bus near Walewale

Two people have been confirmed dead, while several others are receiving treatment for gunshot wounds after a passenger bus was attacked by armed men at Nasia, near Walewale in the North East Region.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening when the bus, with registration number AS 4941-24, was travelling from Zebilla to Kumasi. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the vehicle was ambushed shortly after reaching the Nasia area.

According to sources, the attackers—said to be more than one—opened heavy gunfire on the moving bus, causing panic among passengers and leaving the vehicle riddled with bullets.

Two young male passengers were killed in the attack. Several others sustained varying degrees of injuries and have since been transported to nearby health facilities for emergency treatment.

While the exact motive behind the attack has not been officially confirmed, preliminary suggestions from local sources indicate it may be connected to the long-standing tensions associated with the Bawku conflict.

Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the incident or confirm details surrounding the attackers and their motive.

The latest attack adds to growing security concerns in parts of the North East Region, where intermittent violence has previously disrupted transport routes and civilian movement.
