A fire outbreak at the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) Akosombo Substation in the Eastern Region has disrupted operations and affected power supply in parts of the country.

The incident occurred at about 2:01 p.m. on Thursday, 23 April 2026, triggering an immediate emergency response as technical teams moved in to contain the situation.

GRIDCo says emergency response teams have been deployed to the site and are currently working to assess the extent of the damage while initiating urgent remedial measures to restore normal operations.

Preliminary assessments are underway to determine the full impact of the fire and guide restoration efforts aimed at stabilising the national transmission system.

The company has assured the public that its technical teams are actively managing the situation and that every effort is being made to minimise disruptions and restore power supply as quickly as possible.

Authorities say updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

GRIDCo has meanwhile urged the public to remain calm, noting that measures are in place to bring the system back to stability.
