President John Dramani Mahama has been honoured with the International Statesperson Award by the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, its highest recognition for exemplary global leadership.
The award, first presented in 1973, celebrates distinguished international figures whose contributions have advanced peace, freedom, and had a lasting impact on global affairs. Mahama’s recognition marks a historic milestone, as he becomes the first African leader to receive the prestigious honour.
In his acceptance remarks, the President credited his commitment to global peace and development to the enduring legacy of some of Africa’s most revered leaders, including Kwame Nkrumah, Nelson Mandela, and Kenneth Kaunda.
The recognition underscores Mahama’s growing influence on the global stage and highlights Africa’s continued contribution to international leadership and diplomacy.
