Regional efforts to curb election-related violence are being intensified as partners roll out new logistical and technical support systems to strengthen early warning and rapid response mechanisms across West Africa.
The intervention forms part of the Electoral Violence Monitoring, Analysis and Mitigation (EV-MAM) project, designed to identify potential threats, analyse risk patterns and trigger early interventions to contain tensions before they escalate.
Under the initiative, early warning teams of the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding are being equipped with modern communication and operational tools to enhance their monitoring capacity and field coordination.
The support is being delivered through the Economic Community of West African States Peace, Security and Governance framework, with a focus on strengthening information sharing and response strategies during electoral periods.
Equipment distributed includes laptops, projectors, interactive smart boards, lighting systems, microphones and specialised software aimed at improving data processing and public communication.
The programme is funded by the European Union and Germany, and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, Expertise France and Fundación Internacional y para Iberoamérica de Administración y Políticas Públicas in collaboration with ECOWAS.

Implementation on the ground is being led by WANEP in partnership with the ECOWAS Network of Electoral Commissions and the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel.
The initiative is expected to enhance coordination among electoral stakeholders, improve the use of real-time data and support preventive action, ultimately contributing to more credible and peaceful elections across the sub-region.
