ECG assures public on meter accuracy, invites independent testing

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has assured the public that its metering and billing systems are accurate and compliant with approved standards, following concerns raised by some prepaid customers and stakeholders.

In a press release dated 3 March 2026, ECG said it had taken note of the concerns regarding its metering and billing systems.

The company stated that all electricity meters deployed by ECG undergo rigorous testing and calibration to ensure accuracy. According to the statement, ECG’s quality assurance processes are aligned with both national and international standards.

ECG further indicated that its meter testing laboratory is state-of-the-art and comparable to leading facilities worldwide. In addition, it said all its meters are independently tested and certified by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) for compliance with approved standards before deployment.

The company acknowledged that customers may have genuine concerns and said it is committed to investigating all complaints in line with a directive from the Minister for Energy and Green Transition. ECG noted that investigations have already commenced.

As part of efforts to ensure transparency and accountability, ECG said it has formally requested the Ghana Standards Authority to independently and randomly select and test its meters in both laboratory and field settings.

The statement added that the GSA’s report will form part of ECG’s submission to the Minister.

ECG reiterated its commitment to responsive, transparent and accountable service delivery and expressed appreciation to customers and stakeholders for their continued support and cooperation.
