By Benjamin Makafui Attipoe, Mafi Adidome

A former Deputy Minister of Information in the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, Curtis Perry Okudzeto has stated that the elected flagbearer of the party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia possesses what it takes to wrestle power from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking to our newsteam in an interview at Mafi Adidome in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region, Mr Okudzeto said Dr.Bawumia is clearly the most formidable and experience candidate who has the right vision to drive and propel the country to the next level.

The former Deputy Information Minister, who toured parts of the region during the Saturday, 29th January, 2026 primaries to monitor the polls, was of the view that Dr. Bawumia’s elections coupled with his election strategy and support from the rank and file of the members would enable him to successfully prosecute the NPP’s agenda of winning the 2028 elections.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia polled 4,093 votes in the presidential primaries in the Volta Region, placing second to Dr Bryan Acheampong who secured 5,234 votes, with Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyepong placing third with 1,982 votes. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum placed the 4th position whereas Hon. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong thrilled behind with 125 and 46 votes respectively.

Mr Okudzeto described the results as part of politics, calling on the rank and file of the party not only to unite but also throw their weight behind the new flagbearer to lead the party to the 2028 elections.

The former Deputy Information Minister also described the election process as very peaceful, orderly and exemplary, assuring that the NPP would continue to work hard to improve upon its election management processes in order to deepen democracy in the country.
