Chinese investors tour Keta Harbour site as Togbe Afede pushes industrial projects in Volta

The Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, has led a high-level delegation of Chinese investors to the proposed Keta Harbour site to explore industrial investment opportunities in the Volta Region.

The visit, which took place on Saturday, 31 January 2026, formed part of preliminary engagements aimed at assessing the viability of establishing an ultramodern oil refinery in Keta, alongside possible investments in petrochemical production linked to hydrocarbon prospects in the Keta and Volta basins.

The delegation was received by the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu; the Member of Parliament for Anlo, Dzidzorle Gakpe; and traditional leaders, including Togbe Tenge Dzokoto Glijui VII, Paramount Chief of Amugo Wego and Dufia of Anyako, as well as the Paramount Chief of Anlo-Afiadenyigba.

Addressing local stakeholders and youth leaders during the visit, Togbe Afede XIV said the proposed investments would require close collaboration between government, traditional authorities, investors and local communities to deliver long-term benefits.

He indicated that development initiatives tied to the proposed harbour and industrial projects were expected to support job creation, infrastructure expansion and economic growth across the Volta Region.

Togbe Afede XIV further stated that he would continue to support strategic partnerships aimed at advancing transformative projects, adding that the focus would include community empowerment and sustainable development.

He also backed a call by Togbe Tenge Dzokoto Glijui VII urging the youth to prepare themselves through discipline and skills acquisition to take advantage of opportunities that could arise from the proposed investments.

The visit is regarded as part of broader efforts to position the Volta Region as a destination for large-scale industrial and energy-related projects, with expectations of employment creation and increased economic activity if the proposals materialise.
