A major €17.3 million private sector development initiative has been launched to strengthen Ghana’s business ecosystem through green innovation, digital transformation and inclusive economic growth.
The four-year Green, Digital and Inclusive Private Sector Development (GDI PSD) Project is being jointly supported by the European Union, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ghana, the French Embassy in Ghana, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry (MoTAI), and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).
The project aims to promote a greener, more digital and more inclusive private sector by improving access to finance, strengthening the business environment and enhancing the capacity of entrepreneurs to adopt innovative solutions.
More than 900 entrepreneurs across the country are expected to benefit, including at least 300 women-led businesses, with over 200 enterprises receiving direct financial support to scale their operations and improve competitiveness.

Speaking at the official launch, the European Union Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Rune Skinnebach, reaffirmed Team Europe’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s development agenda.
“This project reflects our shared ambition to create green jobs and inclusive opportunities, particularly for women and young people, in line with the EU Global Gateway Strategy,” he stated.

The GDI PSD project is led by the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry and implemented by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), Expertise France, and UNCDF. It is designed to build, expand and scale strategic partnerships that will drive innovation, resilience and sustainable growth, particularly within Ghana’s circular and digital economy.
Stakeholders say the initiative comes at a critical time when Ghana’s private sector is seeking stronger support systems to adapt to climate challenges, leverage digital tools, and access sustainable financing.

The project is expected to contribute significantly to job creation, enterprise development and long-term economic transformation, positioning Ghana as a competitive hub for green and digital entrepreneurship in West Africa.
