PRESEC condemns ‘homosexuality’ tag by Serwaa Amihere

Management of the Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, has issued a strongly worded statement rejecting and condemning a comment attributed to lawyer and media personality, Miss Serwaa Amihere, in which she allegedly described the school as “a breeding ground for homosexuals.”

In a press release dated 17 January 2026 and signed by the school’s management, PRESEC described the remark as “false, reckless and deeply offensive,” arguing that it unfairly maligns students and undermines the integrity and reputation of the institution.

The statement said such a characterisation amounts to an irresponsible generalisation that seeks to stigmatise students and erode the public image of a school with a long-standing tradition of discipline, excellence and moral formation.

“Any assertion to the contrary is a gross misrepresentation of who we are and what we stand for,” management stated.

PRESEC emphasised that it is a Presbyterian mission institution founded and governed on Christian values and has, for more than eight decades, focused on academic excellence, character development, leadership training and the moral upbringing of young men in line with the doctrines of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and the laws of the Republic.

The school further pointed to its academic track record, noting that it has consistently distinguished itself as one of Ghana’s leading secondary institutions, producing graduates who contribute meaningfully across sectors including academia, public service, science, business, faith-based work and civic life.

Management highlighted sustained achievements such as repeated successes at the National Science and Maths Quiz as evidence of a culture built on intellectual rigour, discipline, teamwork, confidence and responsible leadership, rather than the negative narrative being circulated.

The statement warned that comments of this nature are not only inaccurate but harmful, as they expose students to ridicule, prejudice and emotional harm, while also attempting to damage the reputation of an institution that has played a significant role in national development.

“PRESEC will not accept or normalise such characterisations,” the statement stressed.

The school expressed appreciation to parents, alumni, students and the general public for their continued confidence and support, assuring stakeholders that management remains committed to protecting the dignity of students and upholding the standards for which the institution is known.

Management reaffirmed that the school will continue to focus on its core mandate of delivering quality education, enforcing discipline, shaping character and preparing students to become principled leaders and responsible citizens.
